About Abigail “Abby” Martinez, AMFT

Hello, my name is Abigail (Abby) Martinez and I am a Mexican-American therapist with 3+ years of experience working with clients. I started my clinical experience working as a school-based therapist in San Diego, CA and Riverside, CA. Here, I learned and trained in crisis interventions and worked with teens with low mood or sadness, anger, grief and loss, anxious mood, safety concerns, relationship problems, major life transitions, issues with self-esteem, and more. I have successfully implemented personalized treatment plans within these school-based settings using Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT) and Acceptance & Commitment (ACT) Therapy modalities. My academic and professional experiences have further driven my urge to prioritize mental health and to diminish the stigma surrounding mental health, specifically among our youth, women, LGBTQIA+ populations, trauma survivors, families, and diverse populations.

I pride myself on establishing strong rapport with all clients, regulating emotions effectively during crises, providing proper interventions based on a client’s specific needs, and ensuring a positive and supportive environment.

I was born and raised in Riverside, CA and moved to San Diego to attend San Diego State University to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Family Development. I continued my education at Pepperdine University to earn my Master’s in Clinical Psychology. I moved back to Riverside, CA in 2024 to broaden my experience as a therapist. I love reading, swimming, travelling, concerts, sports, plants, my family, and my 2 cats Milo and Miso.
