About Ebony Thompson, APCC
Hello, my name is Ebony Thompson, and I believe that healing begins when people feel safe, heard, and accepted without judgment. My goal is to create a supportive and collaborative environment where clients feel empowered to explore life’s challenges, build on their strengths, and develop the tools needed to create meaningful change.
I am a biracial therapist who was raised in Palm Springs, California, by a German mother and a Californian father. Growing up in a culturally diverse community, I was exposed to people from many different backgrounds and life experiences. I also witnessed firsthand the impact that mental illness and addiction can have on individuals and families. Having loved ones who struggled with schizophrenia and substance use gave me an early understanding of the importance of compassion, empathy, and hope in the recovery process. Those experiences inspired my passion for helping others navigate their own mental health journeys.
I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science, where I began my career providing behavioral therapy for children with autism. I later became a Certified Peer Support Specialist and worked in crisis stabilization, helping individuals experiencing acute mental health crises. I continued expanding my experience as a Registered Drug and Alcohol Technician, facilitating psychoeducational and process groups while working with individuals recovering from substance use disorders. Throughout my career, I have also worked as a Mental Health Technician, allowing me to gain extensive experience supporting individuals with both mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders.
I went on to earn my Master of Science in Psychology with specializations in Clinical Counseling and Forensic Psychology. Since becoming a therapist, I have provided individual and group therapy in addiction treatment, psychiatric hospitals, residential mental health programs, crisis stabilization, and rural health clinics. I have been practicing therapy for the past three years and have experience working with a wide variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, substance use, crisis intervention, self-esteem, life transitions, and co-occurring mental health conditions.
While I enjoy working with clients across the lifespan, I especially enjoy working with adolescents and adults. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), while tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs, goals, and life experiences. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and I strive to meet each client where they are while helping them build practical coping skills, resilience, and confidence.
I am proud to provide an inclusive, affirming, and culturally responsive space for all clients. I warmly welcome individuals from diverse backgrounds and identities, including members of the LGBTQ+ community, and am committed to creating an environment where every client feels respected, valued, and safe to be their authentic self.
As I continue to grow professionally, I look forward to expanding my clinical skills through advanced training in EMDR and other evidence-based treatment approaches. My passion for learning reflects my commitment to providing the highest quality care while helping clients move toward healing, growth, and lasting wellness.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, exploring new places, and continuing to learn both personally and professionally. Growing up in Palm Springs has given me a deep appreciation for the diversity of our community, and I feel honored to support individuals and families from all walks of life. I look forward to partnering with you on your journey toward healing and personal growth.
