About Kathryn Carero, AMFT

Hello! My name is Kathryn Carero. I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist with three years of clinical experience working with a diverse range of clients.

I come from a multi-cultural family and am half Peruvian. I value a caring, supportive, non-judgmental, and collaborative approach to therapy.

I strive to empower my clients to utilize the strengths they have to reach their goals, and I welcome feedback throughout therapy.

I am social justice oriented and operate from a lens of curiosity and cultural humility. I enjoy working with clients with minority identities, including LGBTQIA+ clients.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, trauma, self-harm, ADHD, anger management, substance use, relational conflict, and life transitions.

My theoretical approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Trauma-Focused CBT.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Saint Mary’s College of California, where I also earned two minors, in Women’s and Gender Studies and Dance. I received my Master’s of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, Northridge. I began my clinical experience working in residential care with adolescents, and later provided school-based therapy in an elementary school as well as individual, couples, and family therapy in an outpatient setting.
