About Lisa Billingsley, LMFT

Hello! I’m Lisa Billingsley, and I’ve been fortunate to call San Diego County home my entire life. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from California State University San Marcos in 2007. Soon after graduating, I began working with foster youth in a group home setting. That experience had a profound impact on me and inspired me to pursue a career as a therapist so I could continue supporting children, adolescents, and families through life’s challenges.

Since earning my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2018, I’ve had the privilege of working in community-based nonprofit organizations serving children, teens, and families facing a wide range of challenges. My experience includes working with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, substance use, behavioral concerns, and crisis intervention.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in the belief that each person is the expert on their own life. I strive to create a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered. Whether you’re navigating a difficult season, healing from past experiences, or working toward personal growth, my goal is to walk alongside you as we identify your strengths and work together toward meaningful, lasting change.

I have received training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).

My faith is an important part of who I am, and I am happy to incorporate Christian principles into counseling for clients who are looking for a faith-based approach. At the same time, I deeply respect people of all beliefs and backgrounds and am committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where every client feels accepted, valued, and supported.

When I’m not in the therapy room, you’ll usually find me spending time outdoors, reading a good book, enjoying time with family and friends, or playing pickleball. I believe that caring for our own well-being is an important part of living a balanced life, and I strive to bring that same spirit of hope, authenticity, and encouragement into every session.
