About Jonathan Gates, LPC

My name is Jonathan Gates. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arizona. I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Counseling from Arizona State University. I have provided mental health and substance abuse therapy services to apply healthy life skills, difficult thoughts and feelings to various backgrounds of clients.

I have experience in mental health and addictive behaviors from my studies to my clinical experience, previously working in a psychiatric hospital and counseling offices. I found that everyone’s path to change is unique. Therefore, I incorporate many different approaches to individualize treatment for each client to find their best path of empowerment.

I have experience treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, domestic violence, anger management, as well as other disorders/issues. Depending on the direction the client needs, I can use a non-directive approach or interpersonal approach.  The non-directive approach is mainly to guide and support the client, while the interpersonal approach serves to help strengthen the client’s ability to communicate and create firmer boundaries in their day to day interactions. My therapeutic approach uses Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral (DBT) insights to aid in the development of a better life. I turn to narrative therapy to help rewrite the stories that might be keeping them from change.

Life is hard and we all need support in life. We all need to feel heard, understood, and work on communication. Let me help you take those steps towards life changing growth in healing.
