About Amanda Thomas-Harris, AMFT

My name is Amanda, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals, children and adolescents, and couples. I approach the therapeutic process with intention, warmth, and professionalism, striving to create a space where clients feel safe, respected, and genuinely understood. I believe therapy can be both restorative and empowering, and I work collaboratively with clients to help them navigate life’s challenges with clarity and confidence.

I am a Caucasian–Mexican American therapist, born and raised in Los Angeles, and I bring both professional training and lived experience into my work. As a parent and the spouse of a military service member, I have a deep understanding of the unique stressors that can impact individuals, couples, and families within military life. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Applied Health from Point Loma Nazarene University and my Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University.

My clinical approach is grounded in Bowen Family Systems Theory, Attachment Theory, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Through a systemic and attachment-focused lens, I help clients explore how family dynamics, early experiences, and long-standing relational patterns shape emotional responses and coping strategies. Building upon this insight, I integrate CBT techniques to support clients in developing practical tools to challenge unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen relationships, increase emotional regulation, and foster lasting personal growth.

My long-term professional goal is to specialize in the treatment of trauma and PTSD, with a particular focus on military-related trauma, sexual abuse, and substance use. I am committed to ongoing education and hope to pursue advanced training and certification in Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing to further deepen my trauma-informed practice.

Outside of my clinical work, I value time spent with my children, maintaining physical wellness through weight training, reading, cooking new recipes, and nurturing meaningful relationships with close friends.
